A sense of perspective -- an ability to step outside ourselves and our daily preoccupations and see things on a larger scale -- can be a powerful thing. It can help us understand what is important and, more crucially, what is not important. It can serve as a source of humility, balance and patience, virtues greatly undervalued in modern life.
