Sometimes, a little lesson in humility can be a good thing

A sense of perspective -- an ability to step outside ourselves and our daily preoccupations and see things on a larger scale -- can be a powerful thing. It can help us understand what is important and, more crucially, what is not important. It can serve as a source of humility, balance and patience, virtues greatly undervalued in modern life.

So before we kick off the week, here are a couple of perspectives from sources that were created by human hands yet are far removed from human toil and trouble.
