Hillary Clinton officially accepts Democratic nomination for president

PHILADELPHIA -- Hillary Clinton officially accepted the Democratic Party's nomination for president at about 10:45 p.m. Thursday, becoming the first woman at the top of the ticket of a major American political party.

In a speech that moved from biographical, to an attempt at mending fences with Bernie Sanders supporters to repeated shots at Donald Trump, Clinton laid the ground work for a long campaign to November.

Acknowledging the moment, Clinton said, "even more important than the history we made tonight is the history we'll make in the years ahead."

She vowed to empower Americans to create better lives, more jobs with higher wages and opportunities in the United States.
