Election officials generally reported light turnout, with a few exceptions in some areas.

The governor’s race was at the top of both Republican and Democratic ballots, with the winners of the primaries advancing to the general election Nov. 6. If necessary, primary runoffs will be held July 24.

In addition to governor, voters also decided on candidates for lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state schools superintendent, insurance commissioner, labor commissioner and Public Service Commission.

Several congressional districts had contested primaries, and there were 20 state legislative seats without an incumbent across the state.
